After more than 10 years, Goblinmarket Magazine has undergone a change. Rather than lengthy reviews of books about writing and children’s literature, Goblin Market has moved to a freer journal style. Books worthy of note will be mentioned rather than reviewed in depth.
Any topic which interests me will be fair game, from the poetry in speculative magazines to the books I read about everything from healing and spirituality in religions of different cultures to quantum physics.
With a background in medieval and Victorian literature, as well as anthropology, equine studies and children’s literature, I may write about Harold & the Purple Crayon to What the Bleep Do We Know?
The common thread will be fantasy and myth in all the forms it takes, from Malory’s King Arthur to the Grimm Brothers’ Rapunzel to the Ojibwa’s Slug Woman. Then, too, there’s my fascination with the folk art I collect, from Zuni badger carvings to Inuit shamans....
Oh, and for all of you who have asked, through the years, about the name, here’s a clue....
"We must not look at goblin men,
We must not buy their fruits:
Who knows upon what soil they fed
Their hungry thirsty roots?”
- Christina Rossetti, Goblin Market
